Junior Sister/ Charge Nurse Emergency Department

Smethwick, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Now is an exciting time to join Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust as we move into the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital and continue our journey to becoming one of the most progressive and innovative trusts in Europe.

We are seeking a motivated, compassionate, and experienced Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of high-quality emergency care in a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility.

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, you will support the Senior Nursing team in delivering safe, effective, and patient-focused care. You will provide day-to-day clinical leadership, ensuring high standards of nursing practice, supporting junior staff, and helping to coordinate the smooth running of the department.

You will play a key role in supervising care delivery, promoting evidence-based practice, and contributing to service improvements. Your ability to lead by example, communicate effectively, and work well under pressure will be essential in this fast-paced environment.

We are looking for someone with a solid foundation in emergency nursing, who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. If you are committed to delivering excellent patient care, keen to develop your leadership skills, and thrive in a supportive and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you.

As a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will act as a clinical expert, managing a defined patient caseload while leading and supporting the nursing team on shift.

You will assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care, ensuring high standards and patient safety. You will supervise junior staff, coordinate care delivery, and support effective patient flow. You'll act as a role model for best practice, demonstrating leadership and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.

In the absence of senior staff, you will take charge of the department, manage resources effectively, and contribute to service improvement initiatives. You will also support performance management, incident reporting, and the maintenance of clinical standards.

You will promote a positive learning culture, acting as a mentor and preceptor to staff and students. You'll support education, training, and professional development across the team and contribute to appraisals and staff progression.

You will actively participate in audits, governance, and quality improvement projects, helping to drive evidence-based practice and enhance patient experience within the Emergency Department.
