Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a dynamic motivated individual to join the management team on Creaton Ward.



An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse. Are you a hardworking, team player wanting high standards of care? Then look no further!!



This opportunity would provide exposure to develop your leadership and management skills with support from the senior nursing team on the ward. You will need to be a dynamic and forward thinking Registered Nurse with the ability to influence change and implement improvements in patient care. In return we will help guide you, teach you new skills and knowledge of being a senior team member.



Creaton is a 28 bedded medical ward. We work well as a team, involving our medical colleagues and support staff within the MDT .



Meet clinical objectives as agreed separately with the Ward Manager/ Matron.



Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the ward, to ensure a high standard of care.



To undertake audits within the ward regarding all aspects of care (QCI, A+A, IPC etc)

Provide clinical nursing expertise and supervision of all grades of staff within the ward, to ensure a high standard of care.



Supervise the assessing, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care, thus providing high standards of patient care at all times.



Ensure that the care given reflects the hospital and departmental philosophies, standards and protocols.



Promote a healthy, positive and safe environment for patients and staff.



Advise patients, relatives and friends as appropriate on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.



People/Management Excellence



Assist the Ward Manager in monitoring and appraising the performance of staff within their sphere of responsibility.



Ensure training is accessible and equitable



Monitor training data and act accordingly



Supporting Financial Excellence



Be aware of the budgetary requirements within their clinical areas of nursing, ensuring safe staffing is paramount.



Attend budget meetings and contribute with cost improvement programmes



Professional Responsibilities



Be responsible for their own development, maintaining a professional portfolio and keeping themselves updated on current nursing issues.



Will be responsible for their own actions and be bound by the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct and all approved Trust policies.



Will maintain own skills and knowledge and demonstrate clinical excellence and high standards of practice to other staff.



Quality Assurance and Monitoring



To undertake audits within the ward regarding all aspects of care (QCI, A+A, IPC etc)



Help to develop methods at ward level to monitor standards of care in liaison with the Ward Manager.



To ensure any action plans are followed to completion



Policy and Service Development Responsibilities



Act as a role model to promote innovation and high standard of practice, including action plans



Ensure good relations with other ward areas to maintain best practice



General Responsibilities



Support the Ward Manager in facilitating the teaching, mentoring and assessment of staff and other disciplines.



Ensure Practice Development are involved in ongoing training needs.
