Job Description

Are you passionate about great service and delivering the high quality food? The Old Packet House, a friendly and welcoming pub by the Bridgewater Canal serving traditional pub grub alongside a changing selection of specials and hearty Sunday roasts, is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join our team as a full-time commis chef.

The Old Packet House, Navigation Road, WA14 1LW, is a welcoming, independently run pub in Altrincham at the heart of the community. We encourage the chefs to lead in developing the menu and improving the business going forwards.

Responsibilities:



1. Culinary Leadership

Assist in the preparation and presentation of high-quality dishes, ensuring consistency and adherence to the establishment's standards.

2. Kitchen Operations



Oversee specific sections of the kitchen, ensuring efficient workflow and timely service. Maintain cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas, adhering to health and safety regulations. Monitor stock levels, assist in inventory management, and ensure proper storage of ingredients.

3. Team Collaboration



Work closely with kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations and effective communication. Provide guidance and training to junior team members, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service delivery.

4. Quality Control



Conduct regular checks to ensure dishes meet quality and presentation standards. Implement and maintain food safety protocols, including proper labeling and storage procedures. Address and resolve any issues related to food quality or kitchen operations promptly.

Food Quality:

Consistently deliver dishes that meet established taste and presentation standards.

Operational Efficiency:

Ensure timely preparation and delivery of meals during service hours.

Team Development:

Contribute to the growth and skill development of junior kitchen staff.

Compliance:

Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations within the kitchen environment.

Qualifications & Experience



Minimum of 2 years' experience in a professional kitchen, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role. Strong understanding of culinary techniques and kitchen equipment. Certification in food safety and hygiene practices. Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Collaboration & Communication



Maintain open and effective communication with all team members and management. Participate in regular team meetings to discuss menu updates, service feedback, and operational improvements. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement.

Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making within the kitchen. Uphold the establishment's reputation by maintaining high standards in all aspects of kitchen operations. Commit to ongoing professional development and stay informed about industry best practices. Support the Head Chef and Sous Chef in menu development, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Stay informed about current culinary trends to contribute innovative ideas to the menu.
