Over at Cafe 19 we are looking to add a Junior Sous Chef to the team.

The ideal candidate will have experience at this level or higher. Previous work in the breakfast/Brunch trade would be a plus.

We have a service charge on all our tables which is split based on hours worked.

We are a day time venue only, so no late nights for the successful candidate.

Job Title: Junior Sous Chef



Job Summary:



We are seeking a talented and motivated Junior Sous Chef to join our team in a bustling cafe. As a Junior Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the head chef and maintaining the smooth operation of the kitchen. Your culinary skills and passion for food will contribute to the exceptional dining experience we provide to our customers.

Responsibilities:



Assist the head chef in planning, preparing, and executing menu items to high-quality standards. Oversee food preparation, ensuring proper portioning, and maintaining consistent presentation. Help with the development and implementation of new menu items, considering customer preferences and seasonal ingredients. Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth workflow and timely food service. Supervise and guide kitchen staff, providing coaching and support. Monitor food inventory levels and place orders to maintain stock, while minimising waste. Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and sanitised kitchen environment. Perform regular inspections to ensure food quality, freshness, and adherence to cafe's standards. Foster a positive and collaborative work atmosphere, promoting teamwork and professional development among kitchen staff.

Requirements:



Proven experience as a line cook, commis chef, or in a similar role within a cafe or restaurant setting. In-depth knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and food safety standards. Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent communication skills, allowing effective coordination with kitchen staff and other team members. Capacity to adapt to changing situations, prioritise tasks, and multitask effectively. Demonstrate leadership abilities and a positive attitude to inspire and motivate kitchen staff. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, to accommodate the business's operational needs. Formal kitchen training or relevant certifications is a plus but not mandatory.
