The Hartlepool Site, which employs 130 staff, provides technology-focused manufacturing including PCB assembly, box build, test and the integration of design-led connectivity and power solutions.

Role Overview and Responsibilities



The Junior Test Engineer will support the production facility and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimising test processes and systems for electronic products. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with external as well as internal stakeholders. This position will also require a commitment to continuing learning as it may involve additional higher educational courses if required.

The key responsibilities will be:



Test Design



Assist in developing and designing test strategies and test plans for new and existing products. Create detailed test procedures, specifications, and scripts. Design and build test fixtures and test equipment. Collaborate with design engineers to define test requirements and ensure testability of products. Assist in ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications in all test designs. Development of test records and recording strategies.

Test Implementation



Assist in implementing automated and manual test processes. Assist in implementation of programming jigs and strategies. Set up and configure test systems and equipment. Validate and verify test equipment functionality and accuracy. Train production staff on the use of test equipment and procedures. Timely support of production facility in respect to test issues.

Test Repair and Fault Finding



Analyse test equipment failures and diagnose the root cause of issues. Perform troubleshooting and repair on test equipment. Document and report all test equipment failures, findings, and corrective actions. Work with the Quality Assurance team to identify trends in test failures and recommend improvements. Develop and implement corrective actions to improve product reliability and test effectiveness.

Continuous Improvement



Continuously monitor and improve test processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy escapes and gaps. Stay updated with the latest test technologies and methodologies. Participate in cross-functional teams to support product development and improvement initiatives. Assist in root cause analysis on test escapes. Provide feedback to the design team on potential design improvements to enhance testability and reliability.

Other duties



Site wide support in line with processes and procedures including. ESD support Calibration Documentation and test instruction development. Support to wider business as required.

Qualifications and experience



Education:



Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field. Or HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 1 years' experience in test engineering, preferably in a contract electronics manufacturing environment. Or 2 years' experience test engineering in a contract electronic manufacturer.
There may be the opportunity for study to gain the required level of qualification.

Technical Skills: (Essential)



Proficiency in test equipment and tools (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators). Understanding of electronic circuits and components. Familiarity with ISO9001

Technical Skills: (Desirable)



Experience with automated test systems and software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand, Python). Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical drawings. Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IPC610, ISO16494).
