Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Bookshop & Cafe Assistant, part-time role in our Faith Mission Kilkeel Bookshop.

The Faith Mission Bookshops and Cafes provide a neutral environment where members of the public can come and enquire about the Christian Faith while sourcing appropriate books and materials, and engage in conversations with our members of staff and fellow customers about the Christian faith.

The Bookshop and Cafe Assistant will work as part of our current team to continue and build on the good reputation and effective ministry that already takes place in the shop.

The Bookshop & Cafe Assistant will perform a vital role as part of the team in delivering excellent customer service.

Our Bookshop Assistants ensure that a friendly and relaxing environment is maintained in the bookshop environment, striving to make every customer feel welcomed and providing a high standard of customer service.

Alongside these practical duties, a further key part of the role is talking about what Christian Faith is and what Jesus has done for them when people enquire or request more details about their personal testimony.

The Faith Mission exists to reach people with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As an interdenominational agency, it works closely with all Christian churches that share a similar concern for passionate evangelism and evangelical truth, especially in areas where there is little or no biblical witness. Due to the nature of the role, there is an Occupational Requirement that the postholder is a committed Christian, under Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the

Equality Act 2010, an active member of a local church, and in agreement with the Faith Mission Values and Statement of Faith.

Skills & Responsibilities



Relevant retail experience Excellent customer service skills and a friendly demeanor Assist customers in selecting books and gifts, providing recommendations and information. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop area. Process transactions accurately at the cash register. Restock shelves and display items to ensure a welcoming environment. Collaborate with team members to enhance customer service and operational efficiency. Handle inquiries and resolve any customer issues promptly and courteously. Key holder duties - opening and closing the shop as required.

A good level of physical fitness and stamina will be required for this role, as you are on your feet most of the day and lifting/moving equipment and produce

.

The advert is for a seasonal (Nov '25 - Jan '26) part-time role of minimum 6 hrs/ week (includes Saturdays)

This is a weekday role with weekend shifts on rotation.

Pay will be NMW based on your age band and guidelines from April '25
