Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to support our catering team in providing high-quality, nutritious meals for our residents. This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in maintaining cleanliness and organisation, enjoys working in a team, and wants to contribute to the health and wellbeing of older adults. You will assist with food preparation, maintain high standards of hygiene, and support the kitchen team in delivering a safe and pleasant dining experience for our residents.

Duties

Assist with basic meal preparation, such as chopping, peeling, and portioning ingredients under the supervision of the Chef or Cook. Help ensure meals are served on time and meet the specific dietary requirements of residents. Maintain cleanliness and organisation in all kitchen areas, including food storage, preparation surfaces, and equipment. Assist with plating and serving meals, ensuring food presentation is tidy and portions are accurate. Adhere strictly to food hygiene, infection control, and health & safety standards at all times. Participate in daily cleaning tasks, including dishwashing, sanitising surfaces, and proper disposal of waste. Monitor stock levels and assist with unpacking and organising deliveries. Work collaboratively with other kitchen and care staff to ensure smooth mealtime service and a positive experience for residents.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a kitchen or care home environment is helpful but not essential -- a positive attitude and willingness to learn are most important. Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety practices is preferred; training will be provided. Ability to work efficiently and remain calm under pressure, especially during busy mealtimes. Good communication skills and a cooperative, team-oriented approach. A genuine interest in supporting the nutritional needs and wellbeing of elderly residents.
