Mill on the Brue, established in 1982, is a residential activity centre offering a variety of activities to school children and adults. We have a small, friendly catering team and a diverse wider team.
We are looking for a kitchen assistant to help our kitchen run smoothly and support our catering team in delivering tasty and nutritious meals for our customers. With a busy 2026 season upon us we require a hardworking, reliable person to join our friendly and talented Catering team.
Qualifications are not essential but experience of working in a kitchen environment would be a benefit. High standards of cleanliness and delivering excellent customer service are essential skills.
Salary:
Depending on your age from 10.00 - 12.21 increasing in April 2026 in line with National Minimum Wage
Hours:
Hours to be agreed with candidates - 24 - 32 hours over seven days, usually Monday to Friday. You will be required to work shifts (morning shifts start at 7:00am and evening shifts finish at about 8:00pm) Flexibility is required and some weekend working is required especially during summer camps in July and August.
Contract beginning February 2026 until late November 2026 and opportunity to return in 2027.

Main Purpose of Role:
To assist in the preparation of delicious and nutritious meals and ensure a high standard of cleanliness is maintained within the kitchen and dining area. Preparing the dining area for meals and break times. Serving food. Cleaning of dining and kitchen areas.
Key Tasks:
Catering
1. Assist in preparation, cooking and serving nutritious meals including summer and camping menus as directed by the Chef Manager and Sous Chef
2. Washing up and ensuring cleanliness of the kitchen
Dining
1.
Ensure the dining room is set up and cleaned down
2.
Communicating with the Chef Manager or Sous Chef of any ingredients that need ordering or replacing
Health and Safety
1. Health and Safety in the kitchen and Longhouse, ensuring all regulations are enforced
2. Assist in the management of recycling and food waste as directed
3. You will be expected to complete Food, Health and Hygiene and Allergy and Intolerance training if you do not already have these
4.
Communicating with the Chef Manager or Sous Chef of any damage to equipment or stations.
Other
1. Actively uphold the Centre's environmental policy and make suggestions for improvements where necessary and appropriate
2. To work effectively and efficiently with all other teams

Essential
Must be able to work either shift as per rota (typically 7:00 - 15:00 or 12:00 - 20:00)

It would be nice to have experience of producing delicious and nutritious meals but not essential as we will train you.
