The Role

As a

Kitchen Assistant

, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe and efficient kitchen environment. Working closely with the Chef and wider catering team, you will ensure that food preparation areas, utensils and equipment are hygienic, organised, and ready for service.

Your work directly supports the health and happiness of our residents, making this role both rewarding and essential to our home.

Key Responsibilities:

Kitchen Cleaning & Hygiene

Wash, clean and sanitise dishes, utensils, pots, pans and kitchen equipment. Maintain the cleanliness of all kitchen areas including surfaces, floors, sinks and appliances. Assist with regular deep-cleaning duties (ovens, fridges, storage areas etc.). Dispose of food waste and recycling correctly and safely.

Food Preparation Support

Assist the Chef with basic food preparation -- peeling vegetables, portioning ingredients, plating cold items etc. Help set up and clear away after meal services. Ensure correct stock rotation and support with receiving deliveries.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Follow all food hygiene, infection control, COSHH and Health & Safety standards. Report any maintenance issues, hazards, or broken equipment promptly. Ensure safe storage of food products and cleaning materials.

Teamwork & Communication

Work collaboratively with the Chef and care team to support smooth daily service. Maintain a friendly, respectful and professional approach with colleagues and residents. Be flexible and proactive in supporting the wider care home environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Reliable, hardworking and committed to high standards of cleanliness. Able to follow instructions and work effectively in a busy kitchen. Warm, patient and respectful when interacting with residents and the care team. Able to manage manual tasks such as lifting, standing for long periods and cleaning. Basic food hygiene understanding (training can be provided). Previous experience as a kitchen assistant, porter, catering assistant or similar role is desirable but not essential.
A willingness to learn and contribute positively is more important than prior experience.

Enhanced DBS required (paid by employer). Mandatory training provided on induction. Uniform provided. Right to work in the UK essential.
