- an independently owned food business operating across West Berkshire and North Hampshire. Our group includes 10 coffee shops, 1 farm shop, a cookery school, a wholesale bakery & kitchen, and two pubs/restaurants, including the Crown & Garter and the Hartley Arms.

Set in the heart of Donnington Village, Newbury, The Hartley Arms is a beautifully appointed, cosy restaurant with a regularly changing menu that is dictated by the seasons. The restaurant is a snug, contemporary space with 35 covers per service (lunch and dinner, Wednesday - Sunday only) where guests enjoy thoughtfully prepared meals using fresh and local produce and a wide range of drinks including beers from local breweries.



Behind the pub, there is a beautifully decorated courtyard with an Honesty Cafe tucked in the corner, serving coffee, tea, cakes, lunch and bread from Wednesday to Sunday. Meals can be ordered from either the pub or cafe and enjoyed in the courtyard.



The Hartley Arms has ambitions to gain AA Rosettes and Michelin Stars, and be the number one restaurant in Newbury (and beyond) on Trip Advisor.



General Purpose


We are looking for a

part-time Kitchen Porter

to join the team at

The Hartley Arms

. This is a hands-on role in a busy pub kitchen, supporting the chefs and ensuring high standards of food preparation, cleanliness, and organisation are maintained at all times.

Shifts & Hours:

Friday and Sundays = total of 15 hours

Key Responsibilities


Assist with basic food preparation and cooking support as directed by the chefs. Use kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen. Ensure food hygiene and safety procedures are always followed. Support with stock rotation, deliveries, and general kitchen duties. Work collaboratively and calmly as part of a team during busy service periods.


Person Specification


Previous kitchen or hospitality experience preferred but not essential (training provided). Ability to follow instructions carefully and consistently. A strong team player with a positive, can-do attitude. Good communication skills and reliability. Flexibility to work on a rota, including weekends and some bank holidays. Ability to commute reliably to

The Hartley Arms

(own transport recommended due to limited public transport).
