About the role:
We are looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our catering team within a Care Home environment. You'll play a key role in supporting the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals for our patients, ensuring the highest standards of hygiene, safety, and service.

St Matthews Unit Specialist Nursing Care Home is a dedicated residential nursing home in the heart of Northampton. The purpose-built care home provides high quality nursing care and long-term rehabilitation for people with severe mental health problems, including dementia and high dependency nursing needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation and serving of meals, snacks, and beverages
Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen, dining areas, and equipment in line with health and safety regulations
Support with basic food preparation tasks under the supervision of the cook or chef
Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment, and ensure everything is stored properly
Receive, unpack, and store food deliveries in accordance with food hygiene standards
Ensure food is labelled and stored correctly to reduce waste and prevent contamination
Follow all infection control policies and procedures, especially in a clinical environment
Assist in serving meals to patients and ensuring dietary requirements are met
Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, clinical teams, and support services

Requirements:
Previous experience in a kitchen, catering, or hospitality role (preferred but not essential)
Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety standards
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Good communication and teamwork skills
Willingness to undertake training, including food hygiene and health & safety courses
Flexible and adaptable with a caring and respectful attitude toward patients
Desirable:
Food Hygiene Level 2 Certificate
Experience working in a hospital, care home, or healthcare setting
