About the role

The work will take place at Turn Furlong RIBU (Recovering Independence Bed Unit).


The 'Recovering Independence Bed' is delivered by a range of staff, from both health and social care settings. Our team will deliver clinical care, rehabilitation support and care support, ensuring people experience the best quality of service they can, in a prompt and seamless way.


The team will provide quality care for our people, specialising in rehabilitation/reablement and sub-acute care for people discharged from acute hospitals.


As the focus of the centre is rehabilitation and reablement you will be working in an integrated multi-disciplinary team that includes senior nurses, staff nurses, unregistered staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical staff, care staff and kitchen/catering colleagues.


What will you be doing?

16 Hours per week. x2, 8 hours shifts, working over a rolling 4-week rota. Including weekend work on at least 1 weekend of 4.


As a Kitchen Assistant, you will support the Cook in the preparation of all food/meals for customers, in readiness for cooking or serving.

Wash, clean and tidy up serving utensils, kitchen and serving areas. Maintain high standards of hygiene in kitchen and eating areas, careful handling of food/cleanliness and tidiness of work areas, in compliance with policies and regulations, and being mindful of allergies/germs and infection control. Ensure that residents' well-being and dignity is preserved and that they are properly safeguarded. Report any concerns to the manager on duty in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures. To always be mindful of treating our residents with kindness, respect and compassion, that helps foster a feeling of happiness and contentment for residents. Ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons, e.g. infection control, and to comply with the policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety within the company.

About you

No experience is necessary as training is provided. Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, but not essential.



Literate and numerate, with basic IT Literacy. Able to work as a responsible member of a team. A willingness and ability to undertake training in food hygiene regulations. Able to assist in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, also being mindful of potential contamination of food and/or the control of allergies/germs. Empathetic, kind and respectful to customers and their families. When working with customers, we are looking for people that will ensure that customers are treated with kindness, respect and compassion, to help foster a feeling of happiness and contentment.

Unfortunately, this role does not meet the legal requirements for visa sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. We cannot accept individuals on full-time sponsorship who are seeking this as a second job or as their main job, as care is no longer classified as a Skilled Worker occupation.

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore subject to an enhanced DBS certificate, at our cost. It is also a regulated activity and will be subject to a Children and Adults Barred List check.
