Job Description

The Kitchen Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the catering team to deliver high-quality meals and refreshments to residents. This role helps maintain the smooth running of the kitchen by ensuring food preparation, cleanliness, hygiene, and timely service. The postholder also carries out

, providing refreshments to residents with warm, friendly interaction, supporting their wellbeing, comfort, and nutritional needs.

The Kitchen Assistant contributes to a safe, welcoming, and person-centred environment and will always uphold safeguarding standards and the organisation's safer recruitment policies.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Assist the Chef in basic food preparation (e.g., vegetables, salads, light cooking tasks). Ensure meals are prepared and presented to a high standard in line with residents' dietary needs and preferences. Support meal plating, portioning, and delivery to dining areas.

Tea Trolley Duties



Prepare the tea trolley daily, ensuring a choice of drinks, snacks, and light refreshments. Deliver the trolley to all designated areas within the nursing home at allocated times. Engage with residents politely and respectfully, ensuring they receive support in choosing items and having drinks made to their preference. Report any concerns about residents' wellbeing or hydration to nursing staff.

Kitchen Hygiene & Safety



Maintain cleanliness of kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in line with Food Hygiene Regulations. Wash dishes, assist with waste disposal, and ensure kitchen stores are tidy and organised. Monitor temperature records, cleaning schedules, and follow food safety procedures (HACCP). Adhere to infection control policies and wear correct PPE at all times.

Teamwork & Communication



Work effectively with the Chef, care staff, and management teams. Communicate dietary needs, allergies, or concerns promptly. Assist in stock rotation and deliveries as required.
