12,811.87 per annum - Salary estimation based on 25 hours per week, Term Time Only: 36 weeks per year. For any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months

This role of Kitchen & Bistro Assistant sits within the Supported Learning department and provides a unique opportunity to work alongside staff and students in a dynamic, inclusive environment.
The college operates a training bistro and kitchen that gives learners hands-on experience in catering, hospitality, and customer service. These facilities also provide an important service to staff and students across campus.
As a Kitchen & Bistro Assistant, you will not only contribute to the smooth running of the kitchen and bistro operations, but also support an educational environment where students with additional learning needs can thrive. You will work as part of a friendly and collaborative team, helping to model good working practices and creating a safe, supportive, and positive space for all learners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Food Preparation and Service
Assist in the preparation of simple meals, snacks, and beverages.
Serve food and drinks to students, staff, and visitors in a polite and efficient manner.
Ensure all food is presented to a high standard and in accordance with food safety guidelines.
2. Customer Service
Provide a friendly, helpful, and professional service to all customers.
Respond to customer queries and concerns in a positive and courteous way.
Maintain a clean and welcoming front-of-house area at all times.
3. Cleaning and Hygiene
Ensure all kitchen and Bistro areas are cleaned and maintained to a high standard.
Wash up dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment manually or using industrial dishwashers.
Follow all health, safety, and hygiene regulations including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning procedures.
4. Health & Safety Compliance
Adhere to all food hygiene and health & safety regulations, including COSHH and HACCP guidelines.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and report any hazards or equipment faults.
5. Stock and Supplies
Assist in receiving, unpacking, and storing food deliveries, ensuring stock is rotated and stored safely.
Monitor stock levels and inform supervisors of low stock or missing items.
6. Teamwork and Support
Work collaboratively with kitchen and bistro team members to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
Provide support for special events, functions, and college activities as required.
Cover colleagues' duties during absences or busy periods, as directed by the Manager.
7. Cash Handling
Operate till and point-of-sale systems accurately and responsibly.
Handle cash and card transactions in line with college policies and procedures.
8. General Duties
Maintain a smart, clean appearance and wear the correct uniform at all times.
Attend training sessions and team meetings as required.
Undertake any other reasonable duties relevant to the role, as directed by management.
In order to support during busy exam periods, you may be asked to undertake exam invigilator duties. The College will provide training.

Essential
Attainments
GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 qualification, or willingness to work towards once in post.
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2) or willingness to achieve upon appointment
Working knowledge of information technology such as e-mail, the internet and other software applications.
Excellent organisational skills.
Desirable Attainments
Level 3 Food Hygiene or other relevant catering qualifications
