The Kitchen Porter plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, organisation, and safety of the kitchen environment, ensuring chefs and Back of House teams can deliver exceptional food efficiently and consistently.
This role is essential to upholding P.Y.O.'s standards of hygiene, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Kitchen Porters support all kitchen operations by keeping equipment clean, managing waste, ensuring stock areas are organised, and assisting chefs with basic preparation tasks where needed.
Maintain all kitchen areas, surfaces, floors, and storage spaces to the highest hygiene standards. o Wash, rinse, and sanitise all equipment, utensils, chopping boards, pots, pans, and containers using correct procedures. o Operate dishwashers safely and efficiently; complete manual washing when required. o Follow "clean-as-you-go" practices at all times. o Support deep-clean tasks as scheduled: ovens, extraction filters, fridges, prep stations. o Ensure waste and recycling systems are used correctly and emptied regularly.
Operational Support
Ensure chefs and Back of House teams have clean equipment, tools, and containers throughout the shift. o Restock clean equipment to designated stations following organisation systems. o Assist with basic food prep tasks as authorised and trained (e.g., washing produce, portioning, labelling). o Rotate stock following FIFO and alert leadership to low stock or quality concerns. o Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of storage areas, including dry stores, walk-ins, and chemical cupboards.
Food Safety & Compliance
Follow all hygiene, allergen, and food safety procedures as trained. o Ensure correct use, dilution, and storage of cleaning chemicals. o Record cleaning and temperature logs accurately when assigned. o Report hazards, equipment faults, or safety concerns immediately to a supervisor.
Teamwork & Development
Support chefs, Team Members, and management by communicating clearly and proactively. o Attend training sessions and complete all required learning modules and sign-offs. o Maintain a positive, reliable presence that contributes to a smooth-running kitchen. o Uphold P.Y.O.'s values of quality, sustainability, and care across all interactions.
Communication
Communicate in a clear, respectful, and timely manner with all Back and Front of House colleagues. o Escalate concerns around safety, maintenance, or workflow to the Team Leader or Kitchen Manager. o Contribute to briefings and debriefs by sharing relevant updates (e.g., equipment issues, stock levels). o Use Zenzap, Logit, or verbal handovers as required.
