About the Role
We are seeking a qualified, experienced and emotionally literate
KS1 teacher
to join our small, specialist team at Hove Micro-School -- a unique alternative provision for neurodivergent children who have often found mainstream education overwhelming or unmanageable.
This role involves leading a class of
up to 6 Key Stage 1 pupils
, all of whom have additional needs including autism, PDA profiles, sensory sensitivities and/or emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA). Each child is supported by our experienced team of SEN support staff, including 1:1 provision where appropriate.
You will work closely with the SENCO, Headteacher and wider team to deliver a highly personalised, play-based and relationship-centred curriculum that nurtures each child's academic, social and emotional growth.

Working days:
Monday to Thursday
Core teaching hours:
9:30am to 3:30pm
Staff meeting:
Mondays, 3:30-4:30pm (compulsory)
PPA time:
2 hours per week

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons based on the EYFS and KS1 national curriculum, tailored to the needs of neurodivergent learners
Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, using co-regulation, low-demand strategies and therapeutic approaches
Create a calm, predictable and nurturing classroom environment
Collaborate with 1:1 support staff, SEN practitioners and external professionals to ensure effective provision
Monitor progress and development, using formative and summative assessment appropriate to each child
Contribute to whole-school planning, professional dialogue and reflective practice during weekly meetings
Work in close partnership with parents and carers, offering regular, sensitive communication
Participate in and contribute to the wider ethos and community life of Hove Micro-School
Essential Criteria
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
In-depth knowledge of the EYFS and KS1 national curriculum
Significant experience of teaching children with SEN, particularly autism, PDA, and school-based anxiety
Strong understanding of trauma-informed and neuro-affirmative practice
Flexibility and creativity in adapting plans based on children's emotional states and readiness to learn
Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
Desirable
Experience in small, alternative, or therapeutic school settings
Training in PDA, trauma-informed approaches, sensory integration, or Zones of Regulation
Familiarity with EHCPs, annual reviews, and SEN documentation
