Lionweld Kennedy Flooring Ltd is a well-established UK manufacturer, fabricator and installer of high-quality access solutions in steel and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), based in Middlesbrough.
This pivotal role focuses on developing and implementing a major change management initiative by embedding a company-wide digital and operational infrastructure to enable collection, analysis and extraction of value from data obtained from manual processes across the production facility. This will enable Lionweld to make faster, evidence-based decisions to optimise production efficiencies and scale-up to meet organisational and customer demands.
The post holder will work with company and academic supervisors to establish a digital production and operations capability by embedding and exploiting a People-Process-Data-Technology framework that catalyses sustained organisational transformation and enables strategic market growth.

This position is initially for a 30 month fixed term contract, employed by Teesside University but working at company partner premises day to day.
This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by Innovate UK. It's essential you understand how KTP works with business and the University, and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position.
Requirements;
- A Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science or Operations Management
- Requires a unique blend of technical prowess, strong interpersonal skills and a strategic mindset.
- A strong foundational knowledge for digital systems, process optimisation and data analytics with demonstrable experience of applying them within an industrial context.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools and an understanding of ERP systems and Shop Floor Data Collection (SFDC).
- Excellent communication (written, visual and verbal), stakeholder engagement and change management skills to navigate the cultural shift.
- Project management capabilities, including planning and risk assessment.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing principles, simulation modelling and business process redesign (BPR)
- Attributes such as proactivity, adaptability, resilience and a collaborative spirit to drive sustained change within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in an industry-based role, ideally within manufacturing or a digital transformation context, demonstrating an ability to translate strategic objectives into tangible operational improvements.
Duties & Responsibilities include;
Lead and Project Manage the delivery of the KTP, including:
- Implementation of a strategic project framework: People, Processes, Data and Technology (2PDT) as an organisational change tool.
- Creation of a scalable data architectural design, utilising IOT and automation technologies to extract valuable data into a performance management dashboard.
- Develop and launch a Holistic Operational/Shop Floor Data Collection across production cells, integrating Continuous improvement and digital lean practices into Lionweld's systems.
- Undertake a major digital-literacy and workforce education initiative to equip staff with the necessary skills and engagement for digital transformation
- Contribute to commercialisation and marketing activities, attending industry events to represent the project.
