You will manage a team of skilled technicians and scientists, coordinate testing schedules, and drive continuous improvement across the laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage laboratory operations, ensuring compliance with ISO/UKAS standards and industry regulations.
Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff to maintain high technical performance and morale.
Plan and prioritise workloads to meet client deadlines and project requirements.
Oversee quality control, data integrity, and reporting accuracy for all testing activities.
Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained, calibrated, and fit for purpose.
Liaise with clients, project managers, and senior stakeholders to provide technical expertise and advice.
Implement and monitor health, safety, and environmental standards across the laboratory.
Identify opportunities for process optimisation, automation, and cost efficiency.
About You
Degree (or equivalent) in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
Proven experience in a laboratory management or senior supervisory role within the materials testing, engineering, or construction industries.
Strong understanding of testing methodologies for metals, polymers, composites, or construction materials.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Experience working in an accredited laboratory environment (e.g. ISO 17025, UKAS).
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
