Laboratory Technician post to maintain and support the safe and efficient working of the laboratory required for testing patients.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
Research Duties:
Maintain the laboratory and laboratory equipment for use to test patients
To assist with the acquisition and analysis of clinical test data
To ensure the validity and reliability of equipment and test results at all times
To assist with the writing of reports of patient test data
To present findings to colleagues
To provide advice to other staff in using the lab and its equipment
To provide safety advice and training for use of the lab
To attend relevant training conferences and other workshops as necessary
To develop contacts within the Trust and the AHSC and the wider community
To promote the reputation of the Group, the Department, the Trust and AHSC
Other Duties:
To assist with general laboratory activities
To undertake any necessary training and/or development
To undertake appropriate administration tasks
To attend relevant meetings
What we are looking for
---------------------------
Degree in engineering/medical physics/related subjects
Experience of working in a clinical testing laboratory
Knowledge of medical testing equipment, including amplifiers, electrodes, electromechanical electro-optical devices, hardware and software controller systems
Knowledge of vestibular testing equipment (e.g. eye trackers, rotating chairs)
Knowledge of basic clinical testing procedures (e.g. bithermal caloric irrigation)
Knowledge of general laboratory practice, techniques and instrumentation
Knowledge of electronics, computer hardware
Knowledge of computer programming, e.g. Matlab, C
Ability to conduct a detailed review of recent literature relevant to advances in relevant equipment e.g. vestibular testing equipment, eye trackers, EEG, EMG, non-invasive brain stimulationAbility to develop and apply new concepts
Ability to develop and apply new concepts, e.g. when developing new systems or devices as part of a research programme
Creative approach to problem-solving
Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to deal with a wide range of people
Excellent written communication skills and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for reports and publication
Ability to organise own work with minimal supervision
Ability to prioritise own work in response to deadlines
A meticulous approach and attention to detail
Excellent organisational skills
Willingness to work as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative
Flexible attitude towards work
Discipline and regard for confidentiality and security at all times
Willingness to undertake any necessary training for the role
Willingness to travel both within the United Kingdom and abroad for training or presentations
