The Role:



The Lab Technician plays a vital role in supporting quality, compliance, and manufacturing excellence at an Upper Tier COMAH site in Four Ashes, Wolverhampton. This is a varied and hands-on position, responsible for quality control testing, environmental compliance monitoring, and providing technical support to chemical manufacturing operations.

The role ensures that laboratory tools, equipment, and data systems operate efficiently and accurately. It requires an individual who is proactive, detail-focused, and committed to maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.

How You Will Make an Impact:



Execute quality control initiatives and processes in line with ISO 9001 standards, including testing of incoming and outgoing materials and managing product release processes.

Maintain compliance with all written procedures, testing methods, and best practices, ensuring complete and accurate product traceability.

Support internal and external customers by investigating and resolving quality issues and complaints.

Lead and participate in root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of non-conformances.

Conduct compliance testing of environmental and utility samples, ensuring adherence to permits, consents, and COSHH regulations.

Carry out in-field sampling and monitoring of process points, liaising with external consultants as required.

Provide testing and analysis to support process troubleshooting, maintenance activities, and plant improvement projects.

Contribute to process hazard analysis (PHA) and Management of Change (MOC) reviews for new and existing processes.

Maintain laboratory readiness by calibrating, validating, and verifying instruments, performing proactive maintenance, and managing chemical inventories, reagents, and gases.

Uphold high standards of housekeeping and complete regular laboratory safety checks.

Partner with colleagues to deliver LEAN/Six Sigma initiatives and drive efficiency improvements.

Promote a culture of collaboration, safety, and operational excellence, modelling a commitment to personal leadership and professional standards.

Creating Extraordinary Starts With:



Science degree, preferably BSc Chemistry, or a minimum of five years' experience in the chemical process industry or a laboratory environment.

Working knowledge of chromatography, analytical software, and troubleshooting techniques (preferred).

Experience within a COMAH-regulated or chemical manufacturing environment is desirable.

Strong understanding of chemical processes, method formulation, and associated technologies.

Skilled in root cause analysis, problem-solving techniques, and sound decision-making aligned with site objectives.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt approach to suit different audiences.

Highly organised, able to manage changing priorities, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Competent with accurate data entry and computer systems, with PI Vision and SAP experience preferred.

Committed to quality standards, compliance, and driving improvements in QA processes.

Proactive and collaborative, with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
