Laboratory Technician Industrial Placement
If you want work experience that really counts, consider a placement with Phillips 66. We are looking for a science, preferably chemistry, student to join us for a one-year industrial placement starting in summer 2026 working in a fast-paced industrial laboratory that supports a large oil refinery.
If successful, your time will be spent gaining valuable experience working within the laboratory environment and also outside on the plant. The two main areas of responsibility are intermediate and finished products testing, both gases and liquids, using a variety of instrumentation in the Gas Chromatography laboratory and also coker feedstock analysis on the black oils bench. In addition to sample analysis, chromatograph interpretation, and troubleshooting, the role also involves sample collection both on and offsite.
You will be required to work a 12-hour shift pattern which will include nights and weekend working. supporting refinery operations 24/7.
We are looking for a student who will have completed at least their 2nd year of a chemistry related degree and are on course to achieve a minimum grade of 2:2.
Please note that for the duration of the placement the successful candidate will not be employed directly by Phillips 66 but by a local employment agency.
Qualifications and Education
You are a motivated and proactive student who relishes a challenge, as well as having an interest in Chemistry and its applications in industry.
Working towards a minimum 2:2 in Chemistry or science subject and completed at least 2 years of study.
Good technical chemistry knowledge
It is essential that applicants hold a full driving licence.
We really value previous work experience gained through industrial summer placements, internships, and work experience. Make sure you tell us about this if you have it, particularly where you have developed your team-working, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
