UCL Eastman Dental Institute is a postgraduate dental school with a reputation as a leading education and research centre. The Research Department of Microbial Diseases is based at the Royal Free Hospital (RFH). Our vision is to reduce the burden of infection through the development of novel antimicrobial strategies and to improve human health by studying host-microbiome interactions. The Department's main research focus is on antimicrobial resistance, novel antimicrobial therapies; and Biofilms and the Microbiome.



We are seeking to recruit a laboratory technician to support our MRC funded trial; Extended Antibiotic Treatment in chronic UTI patients (EAT-UP,) our research and teaching activities in the busy and interdisciplinary Department of Microbial Diseases. The postholder will work alongside a grade 7 technician, researchers and students to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the laboratories.


About the role


------------------


Working within our busy research department, you'll play a vital role in facilitating and managing urine samples from study sites for the EAT-UP trial and assisting with ensuring the effective management and maintenance of CL2 research laboratories and associated space in the Research Department of Microbial Diseases.


Key responsibilities include:




Processing and culturing urine samples following NHS SOPs Bacterial identification, PCR, sequencing and AMR phenotyping Liaising with satellite research sites and trial management Laboratory maintenance, equipment management and stock control

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to important research addressing chronic UTI and antimicrobial resistance while working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.



This role is funded for 18 months and is available immediately. Offered part-time at 0.8FTE. Salary range is 80% of the full time equivalent (36,433 - 40,805) per annum including London Allowance.

About you

You must have practical experience in the laboratory in the field of bacteriology:


Proven experience in microbiology laboratory techniques Competence in bacterial culture, identification and molecular methods Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently and as part of a team Experience with CL2 laboratory operations Previous trials experience.
