Introduction

The College has four faculties and each has a Faculty Head, Deputy Faculty Head and a number of Heads of School. The faculty management team has a strategic and operational responsibility for the management and delivery of course programmes within a group of college departments. Each faculty will work within a remit specific to their area. The remit will outline the key focus areas for each faculty and will be subject to review by the College to reflect the goals, aims and strategic objectives and priorities within FE and the College.
Curriculum departments are grouped into faculties. The Head of School has a primary responsibility for the specific department and of individuals within a team, while the Faculty Head holds primary responsibility for the whole faculty and its targets
Aims of Job/Job Purpose
The post holder will provide technical support for science courses based in the Science, Access and A Level programme areas, including supporting the science team to ensure effective and efficient curriculum delivery and keeping an accurate inventory of equipment and consumables
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
---------------------------------------------
Prepare materials for practical sessions to deadline.
Keep laboratories and clinics clean and tidy and maintain the prep room in an orderly condition.
Work alongside and support the senior technician and lecturers in all practical lessons.
Advise Lecturers as to alternative procedures or equipment.
Complete and update risk assessments for practical activities and COSHH records for all chemicals.
Liaise with the local fire service and other relevant external parties in relation to radioactive materials.
Check equipment on a daily basis to make sure it is in a safe working order at all times.
Have a sound knowledge of health and safety in the lab
Attend and contribute to the divisional meetings.
Attend the college's health and safety meetings and monitor health and safety in the science laboratories at all times.
Undertake first aid duties and be responsible for updating first aid qualification as and when necessary.
Monitor and maintain stock control
Support at college open days and taster events.
Any other duties, which are commensurate with the grade and nature of the post.
