Due to the current level of activity, R-TECH Materials is looking to appoint an experienced Materials Testing Technician for our composites testing department.

The Company



R-Tech Materials provides independent materials testing services to clients in a number of industry sectors, including steel and composite materials. Our major market is in providing independent accredited testing of steel products for concrete construction. This includes reinforcing steel, prestressing steel and associated products.

All of our test procedures are accredited by UKAS, and the reliability of both our test procedures and our staff are vital to ensure that we deliver reliable test data on time every time for our clients.

About the Role



We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented

Laboratory Technician

to join our

Water Fittings Testing Department

in Port Talbot. This is an excellent opportunity to work within an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory, performing a variety of mechanical and analytical tests on water fittings and related products.

As part of our technical team, you will play a key role in ensuring products meet the highest standards of safety, performance, and compliance with water industry regulations. Your work will directly support our customers and the wider business by delivering reliable, accurate, and timely test results.

Key Responsibilities



Perform water fitting tests and related analytical work in line with ISO 17025 and customer requirements. Prepare, examine, and store test samples according to set procedures. Accurately record, analyse, and report test data using laboratory systems (e.g. Q-Pulse, Monday.com). Maintain testing equipment and assist with calibration, ensuring all machinery is in good working order. Support the development of new and improved test methods within the water fittings area. Ensure the laboratory is kept clean, organised, and compliant with 5S and health & safety standards. Work closely with other technicians and departments to meet operational plans and testing deadlines. Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and quality within the department.

About You



Essential:



Proven experience in a laboratory, workshop, or manufacturing environment. Basic understanding of plumping or materials testing principles. Strong attention to detail and ability to record accurate data. Working knowledge of IT based systems used to record test data Awareness of Health & Safety practices and safe laboratory operations. Excellent teamwork, organisation, and communication skills.

Desirable:



Experience within a water fitting, plumbing, or materials testing environment. Familiarity with ISO 17025 quality systems. Forklift licence, First Aid qualification, or other H&S training.

The work will be located in our laboratory on the Kenfig Industrial Estate in Port Talbot. The normal working hours are 38 hrs per week, with flexible working hours to be agreed between 07:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
