The Role

The Labourer will assist in the maintenance, repair, and servicing of vessels within the dry dock facility. This role involves a variety of physical tasks including cleaning, surface preparation, material handling, and general support for skilled tradespeople such as welders, fitters, and painters. The ideal candidate is safety focused, reliable, and comfortable working in a marine industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform general labour duties such as cleaning, scraping, sanding, and painting.

Handle tools, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently.

Support trades teams (welders, fitters, painters, etc.) with setup and cleanup tasks.

Operate basic equipment (pressure washers, grinders, forklifts, or cranes, if certified).

Maintain a clean and organised work area within the dry dock.

Follow all site safety procedures, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.

Report hazards, unsafe conditions, or damaged equipment to supervisors promptly.

Assist in loading/unloading materials and transporting components around the site.

Qualifications and Skills:

Previous experience in a shipyard, construction, or industrial setting preferred.

Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions.

Basic understanding of hand and power tools.

Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to company policies.

Ability to work effectively in a team and follow directions.

Flexibility to work shifts, overtime, or weekends as required.

Desirable (Not Essential):

Forklift or crane operator certification.

Experience with marine coatings, hull cleaning, or ship repair.

Knowledge of confined space or working-at-heights procedures.

Working Conditions:

Outdoor and indoor industrial environment, often near water.

Exposure to noise, dust, paint fumes, and varying weather.

Use of PPE such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toe boots required.

You will be trained/involved in docking/undocking vessels
