About the role

Are you passionate about protecting the environment and have a background in engineering? Then becoming the Landfill Officer for East Sussex County Council could be the job for you!

The Landfill Officer reports to the Waste Team manager and takes care of all the closed landfill sites that East Sussex County Council is responsible for. You will be responsible for ensuring that closed landfill sites do not harm the environment. This involves lots of aftercare and maintenance. It\'s a technical role, and the person that carries it out will be the expert on closed landfill sites for the county council.

The Landfill Officer manages a Landfill Technician and several contractors important to the safe operation of the service.

Its a challenging job with lots of variety and you\'ll have the chance to make a positive impact on the environment across the whole of East Sussex!

We are looking for candidates who:

• Have a broad understanding of closed landfill sites and the risk they can pose
• Will pro-actively manage and reduce these risks, ensuring that people and the environment are always protected
• Are experienced in closed landfill site management
• Can manage a leachate waste transfer station
• Can manage a budget of \xc2\xa30.75 million pounds per year
• Can be the county representative for all closed landfill matters
• Are able to manage a small team and relevant specialist contractors
• Enjoy carrying out a wide range of physical activities, including using power tools and gas and leachate analysis equipment
• Are capable of repairing and servicing specialist equipment relevant to the job
• Are happy working alone in all kinds of weather in remote locations

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency\'s Points-based Immigration System.
