We have an exciting opportunity within the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service, for a Landscape Architect to work in the dynamic and fast paced Built and Natural Environment (BNE) Team as maternity cover for one of our Landscape Officers.
Greater Cambridge Shared Planning (GCSP) is a combined planning service for the City of Cambridge and South Cambridgeshire and offers a unique opportunity to work within the beautiful historic City of Cambridge, home to world renowned universities, hospitals and cutting-edge science, as well as delivering high quality, modern developments within the rural areas of South Cambridgeshire. Our combined growth agenda includes a range of new settlements within South Cambridgeshire and urban extensions to Cambridge.
The BNE team provides in house technical and design expertise including landscape architecture, ecology, drainage, sustainability, conservation, urban design and trees. We work with case officers to review and comment on planning applications and input into pre application discussions. We also monitor delivery of landscape in new developments.
You will have the chance to work collaboratively on a wide variety of planning projects at pre-application and post application stages, encompassing landscape planning and delivery for diverse and innovative developments. In addition, you will join an enthusiastic, experienced team who will support your career development.

About you
You may be recently qualified and keen to quickly grow your skills, or a more experienced person looking to work in the public sector or somewhere in between - what matters to us is that you are passionate about landscape, with a keen eye for detail, and a desire to work collaboratively and positively influence great outcomes!
You will be a great communicator who can provide landscape design and planning direction using verbal, written, and drawing skills on a range of projects and be able to balance sometimes competing work pressures. You will need to be able to travel around the Greater Cambridge area to visit sites and attend meetings.
South Cambridgeshire District Council is a four-day week employer. We expect our colleagues to get 100% of their work done, in around 85% of their contracted hours, for 100% of their pay. All Council staff will be able to opt-in to this way of working under a Productivity Policy. We are a four-day week employer as it helps us attract and keep talented colleagues and improves services by reducing our reliance on costly agency workers. It also supports improved health and wellbeing.
