Do you want an exciting new role in a conservation project that combines delivery of ecological survey and training people from a variety of backgrounds on their first steps into the industry?
DWC is an ecological consultancy owned and operated by the Devon Wildlife Trust through its commercial arm, Devon Wildlife Enterprises Ltd (DWE). All of DWE's profits are gift aided to Devon Wildlife Trust to further its conservation work. DWC are involved in delivery of a project called 'Connecting People and Landscapes in a Changing Climate' which is a partnership project being led by the Bat Conservation Trust.
The Connecting People and Landscapes project brings together farmers, landowners and communities across the South-West and beyond to create a more resilient landscape in the face of changing climate.
Made possible with funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the project is looking at the impact that climate change is having on wildlife in farming landscapes, focusing on nine threatened nocturnal mammal species (seven bat species, dormice and hedgehogs). It aims to build understanding of how nature-friendly regenerative farming supports biodiversity and creates resilient landscapes, bringing communities and farmers together to connect and learn through events, activities, and wildlife monitoring.
The project has run for 18 months in its development phase and has now secured four years of delivery phase funding.
This post will primarily deliver a structured training programme for four Junior Landscape Surveyors per year, ensure successful delivery of the Landscape Survey deliverables for the required species survey, and deliver a key partner role as part of a contract for BCT. Strong partnership working, team management and project delivery skills will be required. The role will be the key project lead and project manager.
This is a part-time (30 hours per week), fixed term appointment until 30 September 2029.
