The Role
The Department of Modern Languages is looking to appoint a Language Tutor in French to support the delivery of our undergraduate degree programmes. The successful candidate will have a passion for language teaching and a keen awareness of the cultural, social, economic and developmental benefits associated with language learning. Applicants will play a key role in delivering day-to-day learning activities to undergraduate students, including core skills for all levels of learner, from beginner to advanced. In addition, the successful role holder will contribute to formative and summative assessment, providing feedback to students on their progress and marking assessed work as per the established criteria. The successful candidate will be required to work both independently and as part of a team. What you'll do
This job description is subject to review and amendment in the light of the changing needs of the University, to provide appropriate development opportunities and/or the addition of any other reasonable duties.
The appointed candidate will be required to undertake such duties as shall be reasonably determined by the Head of School of Languages and Literature in light of the operational needs of the academic departments. They will work alongside academic staff preparing and delivering language learning activities, carrying out administrative tasks related to their teaching, and contributing to the wider life of the department by participating in student experience and recruitment events. The role will involve an exciting blend of activity that will include, but not be limited to:
Delivering language instruction to undergraduate students at CFW levels 4-6
Providing formal and informal feedback to students on their language learning
Preparing appropriate teaching materials required to support students in meeting the learning outcomes set for a module/area of study
Making use of the University's Virtual Learning Environment and other learning support systems to ensure materials are accessible and available in a timely manner
Contributing to the assessment of student work, examinations, and continuous assessment activities, including both oral and written tasks.
Working with colleagues to enhance the student experience and deliver extra-curricular activities designed to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment
Participating in recruitment activities such as Open Days and Applicant events and other activities designed to promote and showcase the value of language learning
The opportunity to undertake career development activities such as contributing to the delivery of relevant 'content modules'; pedagogic CPD; mentoring to support research skills.
To undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
