Job Description

Laundry Operations

Collect, sort, and label residents' personal clothing to ensure correct identification and return. Wash, dry, iron, and fold laundry in accordance with infection prevention control (IPC) and fabric care guidelines. Operate and maintain commercial laundry equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidance.

Hygiene and Infection Control

Follow infection prevention protocols, including the safe handling of soiled laundry and segregation of contaminated items. Ensure laundry areas, machines, and work surfaces are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately and safely.

Resident Dignity and Care

Handle residents' clothing respectfully and with sensitivity to individual preferences and cultural needs. Ensure prompt return of clean laundry to residents in good condition and suitable storage. Report any damaged or missing items promptly to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Home Manager.

Health and Safety

Adhere to health and safety policies and report any faults, hazards, or concerns. Use cleaning products and chemicals in line with COSHH regulations. Maintain laundry records as required (e.g. wash cycles, machine servicing).

Teamwork and Communication

Liaise with care staff to ensure residents' laundry needs are met. Communicate effectively with colleagues and respond to reasonable resident or staff requests. Support housekeeping colleagues as needed with wider cleaning tasks.

Person Specification

Essential:

Reliable, well-organised, and able to work on own initiative Basic understanding of infection control and hygiene standards Respectful, discreet, and caring approach towards residents and their belongings Good communication and time management skills

Desirable:

Previous experience in a laundry, housekeeping, or care home environment Knowledge of COSHH and safe handling of cleaning chemicals Understanding of the needs of older people or people living with dementia
