Job Description

University Hospitals Dorset is currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to join our team of clinical coders. Our clinical coding department has recently been restructured to meet the increasing demands of the NHS and to support the Trust's business activity.



Lead clinical coders are part of a team responsible for adhering to the National Clinical Coding Standards to ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of the Trust's clinical coded data.



The post-holder will have gained Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status by passing the National clinical coding examination.

The main duties of the lead coder role are:



Extract, analyse and code information from the patient's electronic medical record into a coded format using OPCS and ICD-10 formats.

Communicate complex coding examples to relevant members of staff.

Exercise judgement in the interpretation of information to ensure accuracy.

Organise own work loads and work within deadlines.

Provide a mentoring role to clinical coders

Please note if the role or service is relocated as part of a planned move, employees will not be eligible for excess mileage reimbursement. Travel from the postholder's home to the new work base will be considered a normal commute. Any other changes not related to this relocation will be managed according to the relevant Trust or National terms and conditions.
