Job Overview
As the Lead Data Engineer you will be responsible for leading the implementation of data flows to connect operational systems within our business that underpin our data and science products. You will understand the concept of a data product and what that means for the data flows you build and the selection of appropriate technologies. You will play a key role in shaping our data architecture, ensuring data quality, and enabling seamless integration of structured and external data sources. A solid understanding of agile product development, engineering best practices, and performance metrics is essential. To excel in this role, you must be comfortable working across multiple data platforms and have a strong ability to integrate and transform data from diverse sources to support strategic business objectives.

  • Recognise opportunities to reuse existing data flows.
  • Lead the build of data processing and streaming systems.
  • Optimise code to ensure processes perform efficiently.
  • Lead work on data storage and database management.
  • Engage with technical and business stakeholders to interpret needs, manage expectations, and lead challenging discussions when needed.
  • Guide teams in data profiling, source system analysis, and integrating multiple data sources into coherent analytical models.
  • Define and oversee organisation wide data integration processes, ensuring adherence and effective use of resources.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to adopt emerging data tools and techniques at the right time.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce standards for data integration design, aligned with industry and organisational best practices.
  • Design and apply data modelling techniques, encouraging reuse and alignment of models across sectors.
  • Lead the design and improvement of metadata repositories and provide guidance on tools and practices.
  • Proactively coordinate teams to troubleshoot, resolve, and prevent data-related issues efficiently.
  • Deliver and document reliable, moderately complex code and scripts using standard tools and collaborative development processes.
  • Define test conditions, analyse results, and identify risks to ensure high-quality, resilient data solutions
