The

Zero Emissions Transport Applications Group

at WMG is dedicated to research and development activity in the field of industrial and transport decarbonisation to meet the needs of industry and academic partners. We are currently seeking an ambitious Lead Engineer to contribute to several exciting research projects.


The successful applicant will conduct in depth research in systems-level energy modelling of industrial sites, transport hubs, and transport decarbonisation technologies. This will involve developing novel and appropriate methodology for incorporating transport energy modelling, industrial energy modelling, on- and off-board vehicle technologies, charging systems, energy storage and energy management into the research programme to support the decision-making processes.



About You
The ideal candidate should possess a good honours degree in a relevant subject, as well as a good understanding and significant experience in the relevant system and energy modelling methodologies and tools (e.g. Matlab Simulink, Modelica, Python) for industrial decarbonisation across multiple sectors.


The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience of application of energy modelling at a system level to a relevant industrial sector, including the ability to make recommendations for cost-effective efficiency and emissions improvements.


The candidate will be working on an industry focussed project so will need the ability to deliver rapid, commercially focused results, with well-honed problem-solving skills.


The successful candidate will be expected to:


Contribute to the technical delivery of research projects. Develop and contribute towards the project plan and reporting which will require good effective communication (oral and written) skills, presentation and training skills. Utilise experience and understanding of technologies for industrial decarbonisation across a range of technologies for a variety of sectors. Interact with current and prospective industry partners, to support the development of new and existing research proposals.
