Lead Full Stack Developer

Bishop Auckland, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

We're looking for a Lead Full-Stack Developer to join our in-house development team. In this role, you will be responsible for helping us grow our e-commerce footprint, by designing and developing new features, as well as (of course) a fair share of bug fixing. Alongside this, we're looking for someone to help lead and mentor our team of developers. You will have the opportunity to work with technologies like PHP and Magento2, which are at the core of everything we do, as well as JS, MySQL or even AWS services if you're interested.

As we're a small development team and each have the individual potential to drive big and impactful change for the business, we love people who are natural problem solvers and critical thinkers. If you excel at not only producing good quality code, but recognising code that could be improved or optimised (whether it's yours or someone else's), then you'll be right at home.

We recently migrated to AWS and we've got some exciting mobile app work on the horizon, so there are plenty of learning opportunities across different skillsets for the right individual who has ambition to grow.

We pride ourselves on our work-life balance, offering all of the below to our team:

Remote working 2-3 days a week

- we catch up every morning at 10am in our daily standups, which are a good opportunity to have a quick chat with the rest of the team, and get help with any issues you're facing

Flexible working

- our core hours are 10am - 3pm, outside of these hours you can choose when to work when there has been no updates or deployments the day prior

37.5 hour week

- we want you to be happy and healthy, so we don't believe in really long days

What you'll be doing:

Leading and mentoring a team of web developers. Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements and the impacts of changes, and to translate them into functional web applications and features. Designing and developing new features for our e-commerce websites, whether customer-facing or in the 'back office' (staff-facing). Customising and extending existing Magento functionality to meet specific business needs - we have a lot of niche requirements, therefore a lot of interesting opportunities to tailor Magento to suit us. Integrating third-party systems and modules to enhance platform functionality. Monitoring and improving website performance, security, and scalability. Conducting code reviews and thorough testing to identify and resolve issues. Providing technical support and troubleshooting for website-related issues.

What we're looking for:

2+ years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role. Proven experience in web development, preferably with expertise in PHP and Magento2. Experience in another modern OOP language will be considered for the right candidate. Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Experience working with databases, preferably MySQL. Some familiarity with AWS services for web hosting and deployment. If you have experience using AWS in a previous role or for hobby projects, that's even better. Knowledge of version control systems, such as Git. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
Research shows that 70-80% of programming is debugging and testing (and googling). Therefore we know that skills are transferable and that specific tech stacks can be learnt so we would still love to hear from you even if you feel you're not a 100% match!

Benefits:

5% matched company pension Enhanced holidays - 6.2 weeks 25% friends and family discount across all of our brands Discounts at major retailers and leading supermarkets Enhanced maternity/paternity leave
Studies have shown that some groups of people are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire. Across Flooring Superstore, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our people are our strongest asset and the unique skills and perspectives people bring to the team are the driving force of our success. As an equal opportunity employer, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected attribute. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, an inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone.
