We are a exciting new home improvements company expanding our services to include plumbing and heating. We pride ourselves on delivering high?quality work across kitchens, bathrooms, extensions and full home renovations. As part of our growth, we're launching a new plumbing department and are looking for a talented, Gas?Safe registered plumber to build and lead this team.
Role Overview
As our Lead Plumber, you will establish and manage our plumbing division from the ground up. This is a hands?on leadership role requiring both technical expertise and team?building skills. You'll set up systems, recruit and mentor plumbers, and ensure the department delivers safe, compliant and customer?focused services.
Key Responsibilities
Department set?up & leadership:
Develop procedures and workflows for our new plumbing division. Supervise and lead the team, providing training and support to ensure a high standard of work.
Project management:
Plan and manage plumbing projects from initial enquiry to completion, including scheduling resources, coordinating with clients and other trades, and maintaining accurate records.
Hands?on plumbing & gas work:
Carry out installations, maintenance and repairs to plumbing and heating systems, including fitting bathrooms, heating systems and domestic appliances. Perform gas safety checks and servicing in line with your Gas?Safe registration.
Safety & compliance:
Ensure all work complies with UK building regulations, gas safety legislation and industry standards. Keep abreast of updates to plumbing codes and train the team accordingly.
Budget & inventory control:
Manage budgets, order materials and equipment, and maintain inventory.
Client service:
Liaise with customers to understand their needs, provide clear quotations, and ensure work is completed to a high standard. Resolve issues promptly and maintain our reputation for excellent service.
Requirements & Qualifications
Gas?Safe registration:
Under UK law, only Gas?Safe registered engineers may carry out gas. You must hold current ACS qualifications (e.g., CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1) and be listed on the Gas?Safe Register.
Recognised plumbing qualification:
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing & Domestic Heating, City & Guilds 6129 or equivalent. Holding Gas & Plumbing ACS certificates (CCN1, CENWAT1, HTR1, UDHW) is essential.
Proven experience:
Significant experience as a plumber with a track record of running teams or supervising projects.
Leadership & communication skills:
Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team; strong problem?solving and customer?service skills.
Driving licence:
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
Experience establishing a new department or business line.
Knowledge of renewable heating technologies (e.g., heat pumps) and modern energy?efficient systems.
Ability to prepare quotations and manage budgets.
