About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated
Lead Practice Nurse
to join our clinical team. This is a key leadership role, combining hands-on nursing with the responsibility of leading and coordinating our dedicated nursing and healthcare assistant (HCA) team.
You will work closely with the Operations Managers and GP Partners to ensure the nursing service is safe, efficient, and responsive to the needs of our patients.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
Provide a full range of general practice nursing care, including:
Wound care, dressings, compression therapy, and packing
Cervical cytology (smears)
Immunisations (childhood and adult, including travel where applicable)
Chronic disease management support - particularly for diabetes
Health promotion and patient education
Leadership & Management:
Lead, support and coordinate the nursing and HCA team
Organise and chair regular nursing team meetings
Oversee and maintain up-to-date training records for all nursing and clinical staff
Coordinate annual flu and COVID vaccination training and delivery
Conduct the annual infection prevention and control audit and ensure compliance
Manage the child immunisation programme in line with NHS schedules
Work collaboratively with GPs, Operations Managers and the wider team to improve patient care and service quality
About You
You will be an experienced Practice Nurse with proven clinical competence and a passion for leadership and teamwork. You'll bring enthusiasm, initiative, and a supportive approach to both patients and colleagues.
Essential:
Registered Nurse (NMC)
Experience in general practice nursing
Confident in cervical cytology, wound care, and immunisations
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable:
Experience in diabetes management
Previous leadership or supervisory experience
Mentorship or teaching qualification
