SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision), creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition).
Sitting in the Insurance Directorate, the Appointed Representatives department leads the FCA's work to reduce harm in the Appointed Representatives (AR) regime by improving oversight of principal firms and driving stronger conduct standards across the financial services sector.

Role responsibilitiesShape the FCA's strategic direction for the Appointed Representatives (AR) regime, influencing how regulatory oversight evolves to reduce harm Lead and support complex, high-impact projects, tackling systemic issues and driving improvements across the AR landscape Design and deliver proactive multi-firm reviews, identifying risks and recommending solutions that strengthen market integrity Build trusted relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration across initiatives Produce high-quality communications for diverse audiences, translating complex findings into clear, actionable insights Conduct in-depth analysis of principal firms and their ARs, uncovering patterns and informing regulatory interventions Deputise for the Team Manager, gaining leadership experience through coaching others, and helping steer strategic priorities

Skills required
Minimum:Proven experience and knowledge of the financial services sector, including how firms operate and the risks of harm they pose to consumers and markets Prior experience and proven track record of delivering projects to successful and timely conclusions Demonstrable experience managing, developing, and supporting others

Essential:Experience developing and delivering strategies with clear outcomes and success measures Ability to identify and build constructive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify and assess risks effectively under pressure Prior experience managing and prioritising multiple workstreams to achieve strategic objectives
