at Guild Care, we're proud to offer three fantastic Learning Disability (LD) services that enable adults and children to live happy, fulfilling lives. Our services include:

Birkdale

(Methold House) - a day service for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, offering personalised support, therapies, and activities that promote independence and wellbeing

Fitzalan Howard Centre

- a vibrant, activity-based day service where adults with learning disabilities can develop new skills, make friends, and enjoy creative, social, and recreational opportunities.

Ashdown Centre

(Methold House) - a children's short breaks service providing fun, engaging, and safe sessions for children and young people with learning disabilities and additional needs, giving families valuable respite.
Please note: The Ashdown service runs

every Saturday but on

the fourth week it is open on a Sunday. Please note, if a month has five weekends, the service will not open on the fifth weekend.


We have a

variety of opportunities available;

full-time, part-time & bank, seeking people to work across our LD services and willing to be flexible.


As a Support Worker, you'll be at the heart of our mission, providing dedicated 1-to-1 support and befriending to individuals with learning disabilities. This may include offering personal care, but more importantly, it's about building trust, encouraging independence, and helping people live life to the fullest.

About The Role

At Guild Care, every day brings something new. As a

Learning Disability Support Worker

, you will provide practical care such as helping people dress, move safely with equipment such as hoists and wheelchairs, or enjoy mealtimes with comfort and dignity. You may also support with personal care, always ensuring individuals feel respected and valued.


Beyond this, you will share in the fun and creativity that makes our services so special, from baking cakes, singing songs, and playing games, to enjoying the garden, trips to the park, or even a day at the beach. You will also encourage people to use public transport, helping them grow in confidence and increase their independence while exploring their community.


Building strong, trusting relationships is at the heart of this role. You'll work closely not only with the people you support, but also their families, carers, and other professionals to provide truly person-centred care.

Required Criteria

Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with a range of different people, including people who access services, relatives, carers, staff, and other professionals Ability to maintain confidentiality
A passion for assisting adults and children with learning disabilities and other complex needs to live life to the full

Desired Criteria

Knowledge and understanding of the needs of adults and children with learning and physical disabilities, complex health needs, and autism, and their carers. Experience of enabling people to engage in a wide range of activities within a day service setting and the local community Relevant professional Qualification (EG NVQ, QCF)

Skills Needed

Communication, Empathy, Ability to support clients with learning disabilities and/or complex needs, Providing personal care, Experience supporting people who display behaviour that communicates

Guild Care was founded in Worthing in 1933 by visionary volunteers dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals in the local community. Originally known as Worthing Council of Social Service, the organisation focused on alleviating poverty, isolation, and health challenges during difficult times. Over the following decades, Guild Care consistently expanded its services, proactively responding to the community's evolving needs.


In the 1950s and 1960s, Guild Care established innovative day centres and residential care homes, significantly enhancing life quality for older adults and individuals with disabilities. Adapting continually, the charity later introduced specialised dementia care facilities and tailored services for those with learning disabilities.


Today, Guild Care supports over 3,000 people annually across West Sussex through a range of community-focused services. Remaining true to its founding values, the organisation is one of Worthing's largest employers, powered by almost 700 dedicated staff members and the essential contributions of more than 300 volunteers, all united in making a meaningful difference.

12.80 - 14.08 per hour
