Learning Support Mentors
to join our growing Education team. We are currently looking to recruit Mentors with
Makaton experience,
(advantageous, but not essential).
We recognise that working with young people with SEND can be challenging and a full programme of training and support is offered. We would expect you to adopt creative, innovative, and highly personalised approaches to engaging young people in learning and enabling them to make progress and have a new perspective to education.

To work with individual and small groups of children on educational activities.
To assist teachers in developing and implementing individual educational programmes.
To support individual and small groups of children across a broad and balanced curriculum.
To prepare materials and equipment.
To work with individual and small groups of children in conjunction with the subject teacher.
To record relevant educational, social, and behavioural information within an agreed framework.
Supporting behaviour management and student welfare - working 1:1 or in small groups when required.
To promote the social and emotional development of children through positive approaches that will encourage appropriate relationships and the development of self-esteem.
To accompany class groups on external educational visits.
To assist subject teacher in delivery of lessons and activities, group, and individual behavioural management, within the agreed school framework.
To assist in classroom organisation and display work.
To contribute to pupils' annual review reports and progress files.
To attend staff meetings and contribute constructively on specific issues to encourage the development of agreed whole school policies and procedures.
To eat with the children at lunch time, encouraging appropriate behaviour, social skills and positive interactions.
To supervise pupils at all times.
To be a part of promoting safeguarding and pupil welfare which is incumbent on all staff.
Any other reasonable duties commensurate with role as directed by the Pastoral Lead, Head Teacher, or their representative.
To support student with Makaton communication
The ideal candidate will:
Be an experienced learning mentor in a school environment
Experienced and confident in dealing with challenging behaviour.
Experienced in Makaton (not essential)
To be able to use a range of strategies and interventions to re-engage pupils into learning and address negative behaviour.
Experience in working with pupils with SEN and EBD
Experience in delivering a non-core curriculum area.
Experience in using school MIS and safeguarding systems.
Knowledge of most recent KCSIE updates
Be of strong character with a resilient attitude and a calm manner
Safeguard all students in our School.
Engage in ongoing CPD.
