We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to join our successful SEND team and thriving school. The role entails working with students with a range of special educational needs, supporting them in classroom settings and, at times, in small groups in our dedicated learning support department.
The Bulmershe SEND department has its own base with fantastic facilities which offer a superb environment in which to work and learn. We are a friendly and supportive team of 15 staff who have a wealth of experience. In an ever-changing world, we continue to learn and adapt in order to best support our student community.
The role is to provide support for those students identified by the SENDCo/Deputy SENDCo and/or Head of Year who need extra intervention(s) to ensure they reach their full potential. This includes but is not limited to:
Specific duties and responsibilities
targeted literacy and numeracy support with smaller groups and/or 1:1 with students
targeted social skills and emotional regulation/zones of regulation support with smaller groups and/or 1:1 with students
supporting students with re-integration back into lessons, particularly those with SEMH needs
assisting students with making the transition to/from the Bulmershe School
establishing excellent relationships with staff and parents to support students beyond the classroom
supporting students in their mainstream lessons
integrating our therapy dog into smaller group/1:1 sessions, as appropriate
supporting students in smaller groups with GCSE catch up
monitoring and logging students accessing the Oasis centre
preparing and developing resources for learning activities
monitoring, recording and reporting on the progress made by students during these sessions
ensuring the maintenance of records and information systems both computerised and manual with due regard for data protection, confidentiality and regulatory requirements
most importantly, approaching this role with a student-centred approach and ensuring that student voice is at the heart of everything we do
The Ideal Candidate would
have experience in a school environment
have experience of working with young people
have excellent communication skills and good written communication
have knowledge of SIMs Software (or a willingness to learn)
Person Specification
GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
