Looking for a role where no two days are the same--and where you can make a real difference to young people who haven't had the easiest start?
At New Meaning Training Berkshire, we're looking for two flexible and committed Learning Support Assistants to join our team. These are cross-centre roles, meaning you'll work across multiple programmes--supporting wherever the need is greatest. Whether it's Construction, Creative Arts, Life Skills, or our Boost Workskills programme, your role will be to help learners stay engaged, build confidence, and achieve meaningful progress.
Our learners are aged 16-25 and often have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or SEMH needs. Your support helps them access education in a way that feels safe, positive and personal.
Work 1:1 or in small groups to support learners across different courses.
Adapt your approach depending on the needs of the young people and subject area.
Help tutors with behaviour support, emotional regulation and learner engagement.
Support learners with tasks in a variety of settings, including practical workshops and classroom-based sessions.
Assist with learning resources, activities, and preparation of teaching spaces.
Encourage learner independence, confidence and communication.
Maintain accurate records of learner support needs and progress.
Work closely with colleagues to provide consistent, compassionate support.
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16-25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
For the 2025-2026 academic year, around 300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire will join one of our programmes. Many of these students are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as "Toolshed." Ten years on, NMT continues to grow, with new centres planned for Nuneaton and Milton Keynes in September 2025.
In Berkshire we have a range of learning programmes: Construction Multiskills, Creative Art & Design, Sports, Boost Workskills, and Achieve Lifeskills. All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorials to support our well-rounded approach. We also provide a 'Transition Support' programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
