Job Description

Purpose of the Role



To provide 1:1 specialist support for a child with Special Educational Needs in an independent school. The LSA will promote learning, communication, emotional regulation, and independence.

Key Responsibilities



1. Learning Support



Support the student during lessons, explaining tasks in accessible ways Break down instructions and provide visual scaffolding Use strategies recommended by SENCO, SEN Specialist and Therapist

2. Behaviour & Emotional Regulation



Implement positive reinforcement and calming strategies Monitor triggers and support self-regulation Maintain a safe and supportive presence at all times

3. Communication Support



Encourage verbal and non-verbal communication Teach the student effective social interaction

4. Social & Play Support



Facilitate safe and positive peer interactions Support structured play, turn-taking, and teamwork

5. Collaboration



Work closely with teachers, SENCO, therapist teams Provide feedback to parents at the end of the day

6. Record Keeping



Maintain brief notes on progress, incidents, and strategies that work Follow safeguarding protocols meticulously

Essential Requirements



Minimum

10 years' SEN experience

Experience with autism, ADHD, communication needs Strong behaviour management skills Patient, warm, and calm communication style

Clear enhanced DBS

Right to work in the UK

Experience working 1:1 and in small groups Calm, patient, nurturing, and resilient approach

Desirable



Experience in speech & language support Knowledge of sensory processing Experience in private school environments
