Job Title: Therapeutic Mentor (SEMH Specialist)



Job Summary



Are you passionate about helping young learners navigate their social and emotional worlds?

We are seeking a specialist

Therapeutic Mentor

with deep expertise in supporting the

Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH)

needs of children. This is a hands-on, therapeutic-focused role dedicated to fostering a safe, supportive, and restorative environment.

You will be instrumental in guiding children through their personal and educational challenges, implementing trauma-informed strategies to build their resilience, confidence, and a positive future.

What You'll Do (Core Responsibilities)



Design & Deliver Bespoke Mentoring:

Create and implement 1:1 mentoring plans highly adapted to each child's specific emotional, developmental, and learning profile.

Implement Therapeutic Strategies:

Utilise trauma-informed approaches, positive behaviour management, and de-escalation techniques to promote emotional regulation and positive social skills.

Provide Targeted Academic Tutoring:

Confidently deliver adaptive academic support, particularly in

Maths

, using methods that build self-esteem and deep understanding.

Act as a Key Worker:

Serve as a central point of contact, liaising closely with parents, teachers, and external specialists to ensure a unified and holistic support plan.

Track & Champion Progress:

Apply principles from therapeutic techniques (such as mindfulness, play therapy, or ABA) to encourage independence, monitor development, and celebrate achievements.

Essential Skills & Experience



Proven, hands-on experience supporting children with complex

SEMH needs

. A strong background in mentoring, special education (SEN/SEND), or early childhood care (familiarity with toddler/early years development is key). Confident and effective in managing challenging behaviour using therapeutic and positive-reinforcement techniques. Demonstrable ability to build high-trust, professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Strong academic skills with the confidence to tutor core subjects,

especially Maths

, in an adaptive and patient manner.

Highly Desirable (Bonus Points)



Formal training or deep knowledge of

trauma-informed care

principles. Familiarity with specific therapeutic techniques (e.g., play therapy, mindfulness, Applied Behaviour Analysis - ABA). Understanding of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) or communication-focused approaches.
