Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent
An opportunity has arisen to join a busy diverse team working directly with and supporting Leicester's care leavers. You will work as part of the Leaving care Team to provide support to young people in care and care leavers, to ensure a positive transition to adulthood and independence. The team's priorities are to ensure that young people are living in suitable accommodation, have opportunities to engage in education, employment, or training, and can contribute positively within their local communities.
This is a full time, permanent position working 37 hours per week. Where deemed appropriate, by Team Manager, you'll be required to take part in Team Duty Cover Rota. You'll have flexibility in hybrid working being both office based, at Halford House or working remotely from home to suit your needs.
What you'll be doing
You'll understand the many challenges faced by the group of young people we work with and be able to develop effective working relationships with them and advocate on their behalf.
Your day-to-day activities will include, but not be limited to, carrying a caseload of eligible, relevant, and former relevant young people to provide appropriate advice, support, and advocacy to meet assessed needs, with an emphasis on those young people identified as eligible for referral to the Staying Close Staying Connected project.
In addition, you'll contribute to assessments and preparation of Pathway plans and carry out identified tasks within the child's plan ensuring service provision is appropriate and sensitive to the cultural needs of young people and their families.as agreed with Team Manager or allocated social worker.
You'll arrange and co-ordinates the provision of services to Looked After Children and care leavers to meet assessed needs in partnership with the allocated social worker and young person. As well as this, you'll need to maintain appropriate liaison with young people, Social Workers, and involved agencies to monitor progress and well-being, retains focus of work and agrees future involvement of different agencies.
What you'll need
As an empathetic person who can communicate their thoughts in a variety of settings. You'll show passion and commitment to providing a high-quality service to the young people of Leicester and their families.
You'll have relevant employment experience providing services directly to children, young people and/or their families. In addition, experience in independently working with a caseload of young people, from diverse backgrounds is essential. Through this experience you'll have gained an in-depth understanding of the many challenges faced by this group of young people. With knowledge and understanding of legislative and procedural requirements such as Leaving Care Act 2000 and Children Act 1989, you'll ensure care leavers have a positive transition to adulthood and independence.
Using your excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you'll develop effective working relationships with social workers and external agencies so that you can effectively advocate on the behalf of young people. With good organisational skills and the ability to work within relevant legislation, you'll be able to undertake multi-agency and partnership working.
This role does require visiting a variety of locations, on occasion not within Leicester City.
Due to the nature of this role, you'll be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and you must hold a full uk driving license and have access to own vehicle.
