Overview

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) is one of the world\'s leading performing arts academies, delivering the most comprehensive range of performing arts training in Australia. WAAPA\'s award-winning Acting program is seeking an experienced, inspirational acting teacher to join the team at a pivotal moment for WAAPA at Edith Cowan University.

WAAPA will move into its brand-new world-class in Yagan Square in the Perth CBD in 2025 as part of an exciting expansion plan. ECU\'s CBD campus will bring together teaching and research in the areas of Creative Industries, Law, Business and Technology. This will be where innovative thinkers, adaptive learners and global citizens meet to develop into the leaders of tomorrow. Collaborative, articulate and highly organised individuals are invited to apply for the role of Lecturer (Acting) to contribute to our existing specialist and highly dedicated team of acting practitioners and educators.

The Role

The Bachelor of Arts (Acting) program delivers rigorous, practical, skills-based actor training led by a team of ongoing staff, dedicated sessional teachers and guest artists. It simulates real-life industry experiences including fully staged productions to produce highly sought-after graduates who are prepared for a career both in Australia and internationally. As Lecturer (Acting) you will design and deliver innovative curriculum in actor training informed by current developments in industry and scholarship. In conversation with the team and course coordinator, you will make an important contribution to how the core units in acting skills are scaffolded across the three years and how they balance stage and screen. You will also contribute to the effective integration of acting, voice, and movement skills and to how productions and contextual studies are connected to skills training to deliver a coherent, effective, inclusive and forward-looking curriculum.

Selection Criteria * QUALIFICATIONS: Relevant tertiary qualifications (ideally PhD, but a minimum of Masters level) or equivalent professional industry experience. (Certificate IV in Training & Assessment in addition to the above is advantageous but not essential).

• TEACHING EXPERIENCE: A proven track-record as a teacher and actor-trainer at tertiary level.
• CURRICULUM & REPERTOIRE: Demonstrated capacity to develop, coordinate and review teaching curriculum in the acting discipline at a tertiary level including the selection and curation of appropriate performance repertoire across course work, studio projects and public productions.
• ADMINISTRATION: Demonstrated experience in working efficiently and confidently with teaching-related administration such as curriculum documentation, Canvas or similar teaching technology, budget management, marks and assessment management amongst others.
• PROFESSIONAL STANDING: Evidenced industry experience as an actor on screen and or stage and recognition as a discipline expert for stage and/or screen. E.g through professional experience, awards, recognition, invitations to present at conferences or industry events evidenced in the CV and application.
• INDUSTRY CONNECTIONS: Demonstrated capacity to build strategic networks and collaborative relationships with industry.
• COMMUNICATION: Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in an educational setting.
• EQUITY: Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

Academic staff are expected to achieve and maintain the outcomes outlined in the ECU Academic Staff Performance Expectations and Outcomes (ASPEO) Framework and applicable Academic Leadership role statement.

This position attracts a remuneration of $75,193 to $100,797 (ALEVA) / $105,832 to $125,043 (ALEVB) pa plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
