About the Role

The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, seeks to appoint a 1 FTE Lecturer in Digital Cultures for a fixed-term period (1 January 2024 - 30 September 2028) to contribute to the teaching of its Liberal Arts and Modern Languages programmes to cover absence on research leave. Applicants with further specialisms in languages, literature, musicology, or any other discipline within the humanities would be especially welcome.

Duties will include designing, teaching, and assessing undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, undertaking administrative roles within the Department and the School, participating in admissions and outreach activities, and engaging in scholarship on the subject of teaching and learning of Digital Cultures.

You will be expected to teach on the following modules during the academic year 2023-24 and additional modules in subsequent years:

  • SML 4006 Culture and Language,
  • LIB 5054 Cultural Encounters in Theory and Practice,
  • and LIB 5203 Digital Culture and Society.
In subsequent years, you will be expected to teach a module on Music, Power and Politics, to contribute to the supervision of final year undergraduate research projects, and to develop your own final year module in the field of Digital Cultures.

About You

Candidates will hold a PhD in Digital Cultures or a related subject, or a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communicative skills, are also essential.
