The University of Cumbria is seeking to recruit a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join the Institute of Science and Environment (IoSE) as a Lecturer supporting the delivery of our Forestry and Conservation programmes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to nationally significant programmes within a university renowned for forestry and conservation education. The National School of Forestry, situated within IoSE, has been delivering applied professional forestry courses for over 50 years and has a growing portfolio of research and knowledge exchange projects with colleagues in the wider Institute. We have strong links to the forestry and conservation sectors and associated professional bodies.
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in forest science or forest ecology and conservation with GIS and remote sensing skills. You will be expected to actively engage with professional and pedagogical research and scholarship to support teaching activities and extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship and research to teaching. As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, the post holder will be required to evidence their ability to work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning. Although desirable, prior experience of teaching in higher education is not essential. For those new to HE teaching, the University offers a PgC in Learning and Teaching for Higher Education.
The Institute is split across two sites, Ambleside and Carlisle, to suit the academic portfolio and delivery needs of the programmes. The academic portfolio provides a range of undergraduate programmes including Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Adventure and Environmental Studies, Geography, Forestry, Woodland Ecology and Conservation and Ecology and Wildlife Conservation at our Ambleside Campus and Biomedical Science, Chemistry and Zoology at our Carlisle Campus. Additionally, we have a developing postgraduate taught provision and a growing postgraduate research community.
Based at our Ambleside campus, you will become part of a dedicated forestry and conservation team that blends academic expertise with professional forest and conservation management experience, delivering forestry, ecology and conservation courses at undergraduate (BSc and Degree Apprenticeship) and Masters level. The team collaborates closely with colleagues in Geography, and Outdoor Education, and benefits from the University's location in the heart of the Lake District, with access to exceptional field sites including our own area of semi-natural woodland.
The University and Institute are committed to providing a supportive and collaborative working environment for all staff.
