Job Description

Bury College are welcoming applications for a Lecturer in Foundation Maths on a permanent, full time basis. As a lecturer in Foundation Maths, you will ultimately deliver excellent and inclusive teaching and learning in the classroom ensuring learners are inspired to succeed and progress.


We are looking to recruit a passionate, skilled functional maths tutor to our Foundation department.




This role will primarily be teaching Entry 3 and L1 maths to groups of students who have not gained the grades they need at school and may be disengaged from maths.

You will be passionate about young people, their ability to learn and inspire them through innovative teaching and positive regard.

This role is very rewarding and will give you the opportunity to support young people and their progression into further study or employment.





As a Foundation Studies Lecturer you will be an enthusiastic expert in your area, you will integrate appropriate and inspirational curriculum resources including ILT into lessons and plan delivery so that schemes of work and lesson plans support achievement. Undertaking ongoing high-quality formative and summative assessment of learners' work, both in class and through regular out of class activity to monitor progress, you must aim to ensure that learners succeed through progress reviews and initiate and respond to new curriculum developments and plan resources as appropriate.

About you




Educated to degree level or equivalent in certification / training. Previous experience of successful teaching (or teaching practice for ECT's) within this area or related courses. A full teaching qualification or professional recognition in learning and skills. The role requires an individual with the ability to deliver exceptional teaching and learning and inspire, motivate and engage learners. Capable of producing effective schemes of work and lesson plans, you should demonstrate a background of inclusive and challenging teaching strategies and of supporting students to attend by meeting their individual needs.

Knowledge and Skills




The ability to mentor and support disengaged young people is essential. Ability to support students' progress in maths and contribute to the entry level and Level 1 maths design and delivery in area is essential. Excellent pastoral skills to carry out the tutoring role effectively is essential. Ability to understand barriers currently facing young people and support strategies to overcome them. The ability to deliver exceptional teaching and learning and inspire, motivate and engage learners in learning is essential. Knowledge of appropriate curriculum resources for subject area is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with parents is essential.
