Job Description

Bury College are welcoming applications for a Lecturer in Foundation Studies on a permanent basis. As a lecturer in Foundation Studies, you will ultimately deliver excellent and inclusive teaching and learning in the classroom ensuring learners are inspired to succeed and progress.

These roles are primarily focussed on working with young people who may be disengaged from education, those with language barriers and those with a focus on improving their maths and English in order to progress. Experience teaching maths at Level 1 and entry level would be advantageous.

As a Foundation Studies Lecturer you will be an enthusiastic expert in your area, you will integrate appropriate and inspirational curriculum resources including ILT into lessons and plan delivery so that schemes of work and lesson plans support achievement. Undertaking ongoing high-quality formative and summative assessment of learners' work, both in class and through regular out of class activity to monitor progress, you must aim to ensure that learners succeed through progress reviews and initiate and respond to new curriculum developments and plan resources as appropriate.

About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent in certification / training. Previous experience of successful teaching (or teaching practice for ECT's) within this area or related courses. A full teaching qualification or professional recognition in learning and skills. The role requires an individual with the ability to deliver exceptional teaching and learning and inspire, motivate and engage learners. Capable of producing effective schemes of work and lesson plans, you should demonstrate a background of inclusive and challenging teaching strategies and of supporting students to attend by meeting their individual needs.

Knowledge and Skills

The ability to mentor and support disengaged young people is essential. Ability to support students' progress in maths and contribute to the entry level and Level 1 maths design and delivery in area is essential. Excellent pastoral skills to carry out the tutoring role effectively is essential. Ability to understand barriers currently facing young people and support strategies to overcome them. The ability to deliver exceptional teaching and learning and inspire, motivate and engage learners in learning is essential. Knowledge of appropriate curriculum resources for subject area is essential. Ability to communicate effectively with parents is essential.
