Job Description

The School of Health Sciences is offering an exciting full time, permanent opportunity for an aspiring or experienced lecturer to join our team. The successful candidate will possess a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area, and it is desirable that the candidates have current registration with a relevant healthcare professional body (e.g. the NMC, HCPC). For this post we are particularly interested in applicants who can support the delivery of the School's leadership and management modules at pre-registration and post-graduate programmes.



The School of Health Sciences is an interprofessional school which sits within the College of Medicine and Health and provides health and care education and research at Bangor University. The School works in partnership with health, social and educational care providers through well-established links to enable a total clinical and academic experience to be provided for children's nursing students. The School offers a career-spanning portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and short courses for health and care and allied professionals. We hold an Athena Swan Bronze award in recognition of our commitment to and progress towards gender equality within the University's policies, practices, and culture.



The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.



This post is available on our teaching and scholarship career track. Here at the School of Health Sciences, we value the partnership we have with students and prioritise support and encouragement for all our students across their differing programmes. The School offers a welcoming context for less experienced lecturers to develop their potential. We provide an in-depth induction and academic mentorship, plus opportunities to undertake a PGCERT in Advanced HE leading to a nationally recognised qualification. The successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to teaching and learning across the School's portfolio of undergraduate programmes through our interprofessional modules. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to wider deliver to reflect their professional and teaching specialisms. Our courses aim to be student centred, supported by a strong interprofessional education ethos, provide experience in a range of settings and place a strong emphasis on partnership working with the regional health and care sector.



This role will be located on campus at Bangor. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview. Purpose of the Job


To teach at undergraduate (and postgraduate) levels, including supervision of projects and marking of academic assessments with a focus on leadership and management within the healthcare setting.

To develop teaching materials or methodologies, for example course design or assessment and undertake module coordinator role or contribute to module co-ordination.

To provide the highest quality pastoral and academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

To undertake administrative duties as designated by the Head of School.




Main Duties and Responsibilities



Teaching duties will include:


Plan, prepare and deliver lectures and tutorials responding effectively to a variety of student backgrounds, learning styles, personal support plans and class sizes.

Motivate students to proactive engagement in learning and provide meaningful and constructive feedback on the quality of their work.

Keep abreast of new professional, educational and related social, economic and technological developments in health and care.

Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate projects.

Be personal tutor to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing the highest quality, consistent, advice, guidance and support.

Contribute to the development of new programmes and undertaking role of module coordinator or contributing to module co-ordination.


o Maintain and develop scholarly activities in line with University and College strategies. o Publish and share evidence of scholarship related to learning and teaching in books, articles and/or papers in academic journals.


Ensure adherence to organisational and professional body (i.e. NMC) requirements in all aspects of academic work, and in personal professional development

Engage in scholarly, professional and improvement-related activities around health and care education in partnership with students, local stakeholders and service users.

Contribute to the growth and improvement of the practice learning circuit capacity and quality, and support students' learning in practice.

Actively engage in strategic and project-related activities that maximise student engagement, and that mitigate the risks of attrition.

Lead the development of new modules, and the re-design and improvement of existing modules.


Administrative and Wider Contribution duties will include:


Participate in the student recruitment and induction procedures of the School (e.g. School and University Open Days).

Contribute to the School's management and participate in the administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, contribute to accreditation/QA procedures (if module co-ordinator).

Contribute to the marketing of programmes by participating in School and College link activities and other marketing initiatives.

Undertake other administrative duties and responsibilities as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, addressing/supporting undergraduate and postgraduate student experience, contributing to community engagement).

Through the Clinical Link Lecturer and other partnership roles, disseminate information about the School's portfolio, and capture intelligence about stakeholders' future education and training requirements.

To participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Person Specification


Qualifications/Training



Essential:


Postgraduate degree in a relevant subject area.


Desirable:


Professional registration (e.g. NMC, HCPC)

PGCertHE teaching qualification or equivalent.


Experience/Knowledge - Teaching



Essential:


A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in health and care.

Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.


Desirable:


Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.

Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.


Experience/Knowledge - Scholarship



Essential:


Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences.


Desirable:


Capability to publish scholarship in peer-reviewed journals of international standard, conferences, social and other media.


Skills/Abilities



Essential:


Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.

Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.

Excellent verbal and written skills.

Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, Powerpoint, Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.

Essential:


An appreciation of the bilingual context of healthcare delivery and University education across North Wales.

Able to travel across the placement circuit.


Desirable:
